There is no more eloquent expression of interior designer Shelagh Schylling's aesthetic than her own Essex, Massachusetts, home. Her style is an airy, informal mix of classic and contemporary elements. Collections of found objects imbue the spaces with unexpected richness and charmingly personal quirkiness. With a curator's eye for harmonious composition, she juxtaposes traditional features with edgy ones, darks with lights, earthy with chic, spare with lush, local with far-flung, and high-end with low. In Schylling's rooms, the whole is always greater than the sum of its parts.
